GROOVE CULTURE FOR SCHOOLS

Move together.Learn throughrhythm.Belong in the room.

Groove Activation brings students together through accessible movement, musicality, and cultural learning rooted in African, Caribbean, and Latin diaspora rhythms. Led by Ivan Touko, each school visit is adapted to the group, the space, and the purpose of the day.

No previous dance experience required.

PARTICIPATION, NOT PERFORMANCE

A school experience students can enter in their own way.

Students can join through rhythm, observation, simple movement, call and response, or gradual participation. Ivan adjusts the experience to the age of the group, the available space, and any access or participation needs shared by the school.

THE MAIN SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Groove Activation

A lively, adaptable experience that connects rhythm, movement, cultural curiosity, and collective participation. Choose one focused activation, several coordinated groups, or a deeper series of visits.

What students practise in the room

  • Listening and responding to shared cues
  • Coordination, musicality, and body awareness
  • Curiosity about the cultures connected to the movement
  • Creative participation without a performance requirement
  • Cooperation, attention, and a sense of shared accomplishment

Every group is different. The experience is planned with the school rather than forced into a fixed routine.

FILM, CONVERSATION, MOVEMENT

The Rise of Afrobeats In The Prairies

A 19-minute Canadian documentary becomes the starting point for a guided conversation about music, migration, identity, cultural entrepreneurship, and belonging. Students then move from listening into an accessible Groove Activation.

“Rhythm carries memory.”

Designed with the school, not simply delivered to it.

Before the visit, we confirm grade levels, group size, available space, schedule, learning context, and participation needs. The result is a visit shaped for the people who will actually be in the room.
